Grassroots Action - Democratic Precinct Caucuses

The Washington Democratic Party Precinct Caucuses will be Saturday, February 9th. I've heard some people complain about caucuses, saying it's only for activists. Well... if you are a Democrat or are at least willing to join up for the day, then caucus is where you, personally, get to be part of selecting who the Democratic Party's Presidential Candidate will be. It seems to me that's worth being an "activist" for an afternoon, once every four years.

The 2008 Washington State Democratic Caucus-Convention Cycle
Washington State's Democratic Precinct Caucuses will be held on Saturday,

February 9th, 2008 beginning at 1:00 pm.

The caucuses are a grassroots process where Democrats come together across the state in order to voice their opinion about which candidate should represent the Democratic Party in the 2008 Presidential Election. The caucuses also provide an invaluable opportunity for building the party in preparation for our 2008 election efforts and will give attendees the chance to introduce resolutions on issues about which they are concerned.

You are right Steve. If you want to have a say in who is going to get the thumbs up in Washington state you might consider joining the process. Guess what kids the primary in WASHINGTON IS NOTHING MORE THAN A STRAW POLL!
Yep ! Thats right. If you were not aware of this you are now. The primary vote does not pick who will be our candidate for president. It's those people who go to the caucus and battle it out for the candidate of their choice who will end up our choice.
Your vote in the primary doesn't mean much. OUCH!
I didn't find this out till recently and I was blown away. But it's true and I learn something new daily!=)

in my wildest dream enough people will wake up from the long slummber and we will get publicly financed campaigns, maybe even some instant run off voting or proportional respresentation and election daze will be holidaze and we can have a meaningful primary. for now, i for one, am hanging on for dear life to a process that corporate media is salivating over. once every 4 years citizens have to suit up and show up for a couple hours......i want the ones that are at least willing to do that to decide who i will get to vote for. (only 2 choices now)
wake up america!!!!!

I too just learned recently that the Washington State Democratic party has been choosing not to use the results of the state presidential primary. How arrogant, underhanded, and undemocratic can you get? I had been working to promote and help run our county caucuses but now I don't know what I will do. Our country is in crisis, and I wanted to have a voice in this election but I may show up at the caucus to demonstrate against it.

the primary came about as a result of an initiative. the parties selection of their delegates to the nominating convention is not an election. the parties choose how they select delegates. it is as grassroots as it gets. corporate media certainly gets involved. i cling to this chance to meet with Democrats in my community and mix it up. as i was trying to get my 82 yr old mother to go to her republican caucus she was not to interested until i told her she could go as an undecided. she said, "you mean people would be trying to win me over" yep mom, eye ball to eye ball. and i pointed out if no one was convincing she could remain undecided. anyway i want the people, who care enough to suit up, saddle up the SUV and show up once every four years to pick the nomimee for my party. and i want everyone to vote in the general election.
