Gregoire and the Dalai Lama

Day 2 Dispatches: the Dalai Lama at Qwest Field
Gregoire and the Dalai Lama

2:21 p.m.: Gov. Christine Gregoire drew applause here for her comment, "I want our government to be compassionate."

"But it is thousands of daily actions by millions of people in this state and across the world that will ensure that every child leads a happier and richer life," Gregoire says.

She tells the crowd that the Dalai Lama received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for advocating non-violence. "We know he advocates nonviolence even in the face of aggression," Gregoire says. The Dalai Lama has been listening for a while now with a sober demeanor, in contrast to his smiling visage yesterday at KeyArena.
